1. The Tree
The old elm tree dominated the village square until 1986. It must have been about 300 years old by then and had been a symbol of the village and the local Ramsbury Building Society for many years. In 1986, only a stump remained and it was finally declared rotten and unsafe. The village was split down the middle about what to do with it and after two referendums it was finally removed and replaced with an English oak tree, which is now thriving.
The Tree with a fair! Diane wrote: "What a lovely tree! "There seems to be some sort of market going on, including rabbits (dead) for sale. Date - well, it's difficult to guess from the clothes as all the females seem to be children, pre-1914 I would think." The building in the background is the "Windsor Castle Hotel", now occupied by The Arab Horse Society.
